I hit three sites over the last three days, but the last site failed to produce any non-ferrous targets. On Friday, a friend gave me a lead on a small-town park with a baseball diamond that he felt had never been detected before. Personally, I find it hard to believe that there’s still a park left out there that hasn’t been detected. :laughing7: My first find was a ‘39 Canadian Penny, followed by a ‘38 Wheat Penny, and a bale seal stamped ‘Toronto’, after that it was all bottle caps and pull-tabs. I did find a nice little Sterling silver ring missing its center stone. I’m going to tumble this and have a ruby mounted into it, I’ll then give it to our 17-year-old daughter.

On Saturday afternoon, I headed back to an early homestead site in a hayfield that I’ve detected before and found a George III Halfpenny (1760 — 1820). This coin is as smooth as a baby’s bottom, so if anyone can help narrow down the date range for me that would be amazing. On Sunday, I returned to a site the arkies dug in 2017. Unfortunately, after 2hrs I failed to locate a single non-ferrous target. The most interesting part of this hunt were the guys harvesting the beans in the field across the street.

George III Halfpenny’s - United Kingdom
“Halfpennies were minted infrequently during King George III's reign, each period of issue featuring distinct obverse and reverse designs. Earlier coins from the Tower Mint show the King wearing armour on the obverse, and Britannia holding a spear and olive branch on the reverse, with the date below. From 1799 to 1807 the minting of halfpennies was outsourced to the SOHO mint in Birmingham. The obverse now shows a robed King, and the reverse shows Britannia holding a trident and olive branch. Date moved to obverse in 1806.”

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Thanks for your post Bart.

When she turned 16, I gave her one of the first rings I found in 2011.
I found it in our backyard and it had a ruby surrounded by rose-cut diamonds... a few months later, it was stolen from her high school gym locker.

I think this will help her feel better about that loss. :sadsmiley:
Dave

Well done on the recoveries Dave, maybe in the spring the Geo.lll site will produce something more.
I'm sure the daughter will love the bling.

Nothing like seeing the harvester's 30ft head opening up the fields.:hello2:

Thanks very much Jim, my field options are definitely starting to open up. :icon_thumleft:
