I went out this morning about 7am to have a look at 2 new fields. The first field maybe worth going back to later, but was giving up a lot of iron signals today. We moved to the second field after about an hour and it gave up lead, coins, pistol and musket shot and a beautiful late saxon stirrup-strap mount . I also found what maybe a strap end, but it needs more cleaning, so I will post it and all the other finds in a separate post. Here is a link to a similar stirrup mount http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ukdfddata/showrecords.php?product=5951&cat=110

here are the pics

The fact is, an 11th century extremely rare find is exactly what it is, and that makes it a "banner" find in my opinion!
I've often thought there should be US and Euro "Banner" windows up there. We have a massive advantage over the yanks in the ages of items found, but that's not our fault! :laughing9:

Great find mate...Banner vote in!

Sorry it's not up there already. It is a banner item. I really hope someone sees the wisdom of placing it there for all the good reasons outlined above. Rarity is only the beginning.
Really nice find!

Hey Dano, cheers mate . Hands have been a bit full at the mo', but I really do appreciate the vote. If it gets there, fine, if it doesn't, thats ok too. After all, I found it and I've got it, almost a 1000 years of history in my hands :laughing7:

Thanks mate, but I don't think I'm in favour. Maybe if it had been a lincoln cent I might have stood a chance. Not to worry, it hit banner on 2 other sites, just goes to show doesn't it :tongue3:. If Tnet gets sold maybe the Euro's will get a better chance :dontknow:. Probably not, but this is one of many I show real history on, I don't spend that much time here anymore since Marc decided to sell.
