Hi Guys, What are your latest gold finds?
Here is my last effort using my little home made flared sluice box & crevicing tools & hand crevice sucker pumps.

Sliuceboxwithflare.jpg

The little creek I was working in has very little water flow so I taped some plastic builders polythene to the top edge of the flare so that when I dammed up the creek I could spread the polythene out & bury it to get a totaly water tight seal with no water escaping under or around the sides of the box. Getting all the water to flow down the box.

3.5 grams of Gold found with a wee specimen piece as well.

very nice kiwi, not too bad for a trickle of a stream.

Kiwi JW,
Nicely done! Its good to see color again!! Excellent use of the brain, tape and plastic and nice angle on the sluice!!!.....63bkpkr

Looks great, wish I was there with ya!!! Wow 3.5 grams, I dont think I have gathered that in 10 trips to the river sluicing, great job, love the pics. Thanks!!!

Hi Guys, Thanks for the kind words.
I was hoping to start a bit of a thread here were we could all share our finds on a regular basis. Be good to see what you guys are getting & how you are going about it.
I am in the process of putting together a 12 volt bilge pump mini type crevice sucker which I am hoping will be quicker & more efficient than my hand pump suckers. Also nice & quiet as I dont like to attract attention with my noisy 2 stroke 2" little dredge set up. This creek cant keep up with the 2" dredge either with its very low water flow. The bilge pump set up should be ideal. I know a lot of you will show huge interest in this as I have google searched the idea & came across heaps of people wanting to know about the principle & chances of success. There is a lot of negative feedback as to it not working but trials I have done look promising. My idea is similar to the petrol powered vac's but using the bilge pump & water suction instead of air. I arent using the bilge pump to create water pressure into a small suction nozzle type set up as I have seen people try to do. You will have to wait, but I will keep you posted on how it pans out.

Happy hunting

Great thread Kiwi, always love to see what yall are finding!!! :hello2: You get out there by yourself most of the time, its always neat to see how well others are doing.

Very nice sluice box and very nice gold. Keep us informed on the bilge pump project. Doug.

Nice shine . Looks like more than one wee spec piece there . Nice sluice build too . :icon_thumright:

Holy shit, I'm doing the same thing. Lets see who gets the patent 1st. lol j/k. I'll post pics of mine and the trials when I finish. Won't be able to work on it more until tomorrow though. HH>

Hi guys, G'day Takoda, Yes there is a lot of little bits of quartz with gold attached. This is the nature of the gold in this little creek. But do you think I can find where it is coming from :dontknow::-\ ??? ::) I havnt given up looking though. :laughing7: :icon_thumleft:

hurry up, I want to see this new gizmo ! I need a 12 volt rig ! - something for sniping ,very shallow exposed bedrock.

Hi guys, Sorry for the long silence but the weather in the weekends hasnt been suitable for me to get up my little creek. I did do one mission up there to try out my bilge pump set up. Went good for about 30 seconds but was sucking in air some where & when the air caught up with it, it lost suction. So not so succesful. Put my sluice box in to action & got a little bit more colour.

I like the way the current crosses over just above the ribbed matting. A good drop out zone. I could do with extending the matting up further.

Kiwi,
Nice gold! I have not made it to the creek this week. Looks like your honey hole is way back in the depths of a jungle! Keep up the good work and best of luck!

Kiwi,
Forgot to ask, what is your method for securing the rubber matting to the sluice box?

kiwi, Gentlemen LADIES: If I may make a suggestion, seeing your gold, float a piece of light plastic the full width and length of your sluice. This will radically increase your recovery of fines.

Hi there guys, Prospectordamon I use a glue we have called Ados F2. It is a contact adhesive glue that comes in a spray can which males it very easy to apply. You spray a light coat to both surfaces, allow for the glue to be touch dry, then place both surfaces together. You will need to mask off the sluice box where you dont want glue to go. You need to be very accurate when putting the two together as you only get the one shot at doing it as the contact is instant & if you mess it up you generaly cant seperate or manouver the matting to be where it should be.
RdTTT, This is a very slow water feed box with classified material being fed in to it. I have two carpets in the box. An upper & lower carpet. Very little to no gold gets in to the 2nd, lower carpet. A lot of the fine gold gets caught up in the "v" of the ribbed matting before it even gets to the riffles & carpet. I have placed a pan at the end of the box to catch & sample the tailings & have never found gold in the tailings so I dont need a dampner going the full length of the box. I do have a dampner when running the more aggresive dredge set ups.

I'd like to hear more about your 12volt suction system with a bilge pump... what size pump are you using etc... are you using a dredge nozzle?

Love that creek you are prospecting at.. it looks very peaceful and private.
