There is an old ( at least 1800's) house foundation in the woods on the farm. Yesterday was the first I have been to this location but others were there maybe thirty years ago. Lots of old iron but this one thing is lead and I can not find anything on line about it. There were maybe two others (bigger) but no consensus of what it could be. It weighs 5.78 ounce and measures top to bottom 1.585 inches and 1.16 diameter. Any ideas? Nesting or decoy eggs to encourage the chickens to lay? Although I've never seen one made of lead... :dontknow:

Thanks every one for your thoughts and input. I was trying to find the other post on tnet but didn't know how to find it. The lead does not have a hole in the ends. It looks like some one may have grabbed it with tongs before it totally solidified because there is a indented place on the side and a pinched looking spot on top. I guess it could have been a egg to place in a nest.( we still do that some times) . My son said may be it was a weight for some thing. We do not live close to any deep water and the house from the foundation that it was next to was gone by the 30's.

Is the protrusion on one one end magnetic? It looks like there might have been a pin through it, or at least into it?

The protrusion on the end is not magnetic it looks like it was pinched by needle nose pliers or something but not deep. I tried to see if there were holes with a toothpick then a needle just the indentation.
