Lead New Jersey "Copper" 1843 New Brunswick token, silver engraved teaspoon...

Hey everyone,

Today I went back to the same site as the last hunt and found what I can only describe as a lead New Jersey "copper"...Never knew they existed, guessing it's a counterfeit of some kind? Any info on it would be appreciated, sorry if it's still a bit dirty...Didn't want to do too much to it in case it's a rarity. Also managed a toasted 1843 New Brunswick halfpenny token and the spoon. I've never seen one before, had me scratching my head for sure!

It is indeed a counterfeit of a 1786 Maris 18-M (bridle variety).(Scarce Rarity 3 variety) I will check my records on if any other lead counterfeit NJ's are in my survey, I do not think so and will pass this information on to some expert friends of mine. Sent you a PM asking for some data....

I checked a few things and so far have not found any lead/pewter like NJ counterfeits in the survey or mention in the "Big" NJ book. If possible could you weigh it in grams or grains and diameter in mm? Very unusual find for sure!

Hey Jeff, Thanks! I was like what the hell is this? Lol. Anyways I think the spoon might be silver plated cuz it's slightly pitted.

It is special as a detecting find, but I can't imagine too high of interest being a cast counterfeit. The real show stopper would be a crude designed struck one.

The spoon looks like coin silver (even with the pitting which sometimes happens with buried silver depending on impurity content, or contact with with other metals while buried).

I could tell you for certain by looking at the back side of the spoon.
