LEAD ! That Not So Favorite Metal / Could'nt Have America Without It - A Tribute
Happy Holidays !
Looking at past finds last night and thought I have some pretty cool lead finds !
Thought a mini tribute to our maybe least favorite metal needed some fanfare !! YAY LEAD !!
( sorry not a 'today' find, hope I'm not bending the rules to far )
First a few lead bale seals. I love digging these stamped lead relics !
I believe the BIG anchor stye one is war of 1812 considering I found it at a site not far from the Mohawk river that saw W-O-1812 soldiers milling about !
The "4" lead seal came from a shallow Mohawk river ford (crossing ) where we found many relics and coins and also dug my 1st
Spanish cobb same area !
Pic.#4 are lead wizzers. 1 hole variety.And a possible flattened musketball ( game piece ? )
Pic.#5 is of the wizzer & a button I found about 1.5 miles away from the wizzer yet both have a etched square in the middle.
Significant ?
Pic#6 are the 3 lead carvings I dug mid summer at a Mohawk valley indian castle ! I love 'em !!!
I imagine a Iroquois indian father carving these figures for a son or daughter and the fun they had with them.
Photo #7 is a collection of musketballs dug around the state at various private property near battlefields and colonial sites.
Important projectiles that made America !!
Last are musketballs - chewed variety ! I've found my share of 'em and I think they are very unique!
If some were bit into during a amputation or ? And I've read during hot summer months soldiers would suck a pebble or musketball to avoid cottonmouth.
So a post to that sometimes unappreciated metal we all dig !
Merry Holidays Tnetters !!
