Found a big chunk of lead along old RR tracks and that may be all I'll know about the piece :D Roughly 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 10 1/2" (full length).

The shape almost indicates it was used to encase something, but guess it could have been bent that way by chance. Any ideas on what it was used for?

Often found lead of this shape and size was used by the old plumbers to seal the joint between two iron pipes which fit within each other. Here's an example like your's I scrapped off a 19th century iron pipe.

It very well could be lead from pipe joint seal. It does have the shape for it.

I found one the same shape but smaller. I always wanted to know what it was. I am trying to find my old post or Ill take another picture. Im not a charter member at this time and it is hard to search through 10,000 of my old posts lol.Mine appeared to have some markings. I found it next to a fired Minnieball.

Smaller but could it be the same concept as the sabot projectile. Would it be too big for a ring? Soldiers are known to have fashioned all kinds of stuff out of lead.
