I made a walk down the creek I had been hunting over and had a good day and learned a lot about what all is possible to find. First this creek's gravel is larger than any other creek I have ever found in this area, most of it is large has my fist and that is uncommon.

2nd the type of stone I found tells me that it is cutting trough some old layers. The 2 pieces in my hand are what I look for to tell me how deep a creek is cutting.
The piece to the left in my hand is a sandstone that formed around a root and the other piece is what I call Iron stone, both come from an old formation and where you can find things like Mastodon and giant animal remains and maybe some old stone tools. This creek drains 2 counties and by air miles is 25mi long ,by walking miles it may be 50mi long, so I may never get it all walked. So I am going to chart this creek as I go up stream by plotting my finds and all the smaller creeks that run into it and this may take me the rest of my life, but I think I may find some good stuff in this one creek. This is what I found today in less than a 1/4 mile
1 broken hammer stone
1 whole hammer stone and a nice group of other worked stone
A couple of scrapers, cores, chipped stone and a knife blade.
