everyday work on the canal. This canal originated at Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe), and ended at Easton, where it connected to the Delaware and Morris Canals

Jeff I think the canal runs right beside the NS railyard in Allentown if I'm not mistaken? And the NS Lehigh line runs along and or near one of the other canals for a while. There are some REALLY old buildings along the Lehigh line. I wasn't into detecting before my accident but I can remember a lot of old old structures along the Lehigh line that are abandoned. Your post just brought back a lot of memories of those places. That area would make a great group hunt!
