I dug this solid silver two inch long plate about 10 years ago in St Helena SC. Started trying to get some ID on who Leo Wellhouse was. Never got anywhere so I went and laid down until the feeling passed.
I recently joined a SC artifact club on FB and presented it with the hopes that someone local might know who Leo was. I mentioned there is a Wellhouse road not far from where I dug it but could not find any history on how the road was named. One person responded that AI says it was a casket plate. I started thinking if my very superstitious wife found out I had a person's casket ID plate in the house she would beat me like a drum
. Then another person said it may be a personal chest plate. Finally one of the members said they read Leo as Iced. I looked closer and sure enough it is an I overlapping into a c.
So now I don't have to worry about freaking my wife out and I changed my direction of research to well houses, as in early drinking establishments. Still at a dead end on history of Wellhouse Road which is about 4 miles away as a crow flies. Cannot find anything online yet and may go to the main library in town for help.
Anyone have recommendations?
