Tintype photograph. 1 Subject potentially identified.

So, I was going through family history stuff, scanning documents and pictures. While I was going through the first box, I found what I thought was a daguerreotype, only to realize later it was a tintype. Here’s a picture:

Since I identified that it is a tintype, and I found it in family history, I know that I am related to this person somehow. Why else would it be in a family history box?

None of my extended family knows who they are, so I had to do a lot of research.

I ran the picture through AI, and it said that based on the clothing and the method that the picture was taken, it was about the 1860s. I then started to look at my Family Tree, on an app called family search. I was looking around this time period for anybody who looks similar and was a little kid at this time.

After a while, I found a very strong lead.

I have an ancestor who went across the plains with the Willy Martin handcart company. One of her kids was born in 1861. I found this tintype with a lot of other pictures from that same family.

Weighing the facts using elementary deduction, I hypothesize that this picture, specifically the girl on the right, is my great great great grandmother. Here is a picture of her.

See all the similarities? It’s possible that I solved the mystery of who at least one of the kids is in the tintype.
