I noticed this thread died on the vine. I have not checked this forum for quite a while, I guess, because I was unaware of the plans! Has anything been done?

Hey Neil...

In case you missed the post, we did have the hunt in April. I'm sure we'll be doing it again; Probably Prospect park in the fall. Here's the link to my post / pics:

Re: LET'S DO IT TRI-STATE AREA NY/NJ/CT!!

I live in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I have a detector but no car. I am looking for friends with cars to search parks and beaches in CT.

Seriously there should be orginized hunts as often as possible , Maybe Prospect park , one weekend in a couple of weeks Forest park ,etc etc sort of like bar hopping LOL , being born and raised in Queens , Forest park does have allot of wooded unspoiled areas , off of woodhaven blvd , where the horse stables are and paths , I am Game , but also seeking orginization in the upstate NY, North Jersy area as well. SPring is almost upon us , We should orginize and have hunts every Weekend , Meet New friends , and Just have a blast uncovering history .

This is a great idea for people living in Connecticut.

It looks to me like there have been some recent changes in the rules and regulations in NYC regarding Metal Detecting in the parks. See below:

§1-04 Prohibited Uses
Destruction or Abuse of Property and Equipment

No person shall use a metal detector in any park, except in unvegetated beach areas. Use of metal detectors in other park areas will be permitted if the prior written consent of the Commissioner is obtained.

I only see one way to contact the commissioner on the site, and that is through a form. I know there were some issues last year related to a group hunt where at least one person got a fine.

In the past there was a section on the site for a Metal Detecting Permit, which was needed for detecting in NYC parks (many were off limits to detecting, now all may be.)

Re: LET'S DO IT TRI-STATE AREA NY/NJ/CT!!

In Connecticut there are no stupid rules like in NY. We can search beaches and parks without permission.

In NJ, Metal Detecting is prohibited in the State Forests. By the look of it, alcoholic beverages are encouraged though, and killing animals is legal.

Re: LET'S DO IT TRI-STATE AREA NY/NJ/CT!!

Neil you can still detect in NYC parks with the permit.I have the 2010 permit and the parks list and rules are pretty much the same as last year and they added back Prospect 2 days a week.

I got the application in today's mail.
