I found this brass plate in a burn pit with other items dating to the early to mid 1800's here in Northern Vermont. Sorry the scan is not too good. On the top it says LOCKE and on the bottom EXPRESS CO
In the middle is the number 4. I can not find any info on this company. Buckram....Help!!!

Update: on the back it says, Mitchell Mfg. Co. Boston

I'd say it was/is a plate to a railway trunk of some type (late 19th early 20th century).

Just a guess, but I've seen similar plates like these before (used in R&R transport on trunks, crates, etc.).
