Hello I am looking to get a new detector, my trusty fisher 1265x finally gave up on me, would love to fix it but it's 30 years old and doubt fisher would have the parts.
So I am thinking of either a brand new Garrett AT pro or a used minelab explorer 2.
I've known a lot of people over the years that have had Garretts with mixed results, my pops had a GTA 1500 and it couldn't keep up with the 1265.
I have read good and bad on the at pro, I have not heard anything bad about the explorer 2 other than you need to be a genius to figure it out...heh but I have a lot of patience.
I mostly hunt old parks that are very trashy, I do on occasion hunt old home sites.
The main reason I like the minelab, is the multi-frequency of the unit and the continious automatic ground balance.
The most important feature would be which of these attains the best depth.
I welcome any and all opinions, be it good or bad.
Thanks
Mike

Whatever MD you finally decide on - please consider buying one from one of

look at the minelab quattro,i've seen them as cheap as $350.easy to use, good target info

Those are good choices - the Explorer II may give you an edge on depth, the AT Pro is more versatile with water hunting and easier to use.
