Relic Hunting
Before Dman switched over from coin hunting and began relic hunting with me, i was hunting a spring below a US CW artillery site in Middle Tennessee near a large US Camp. I found some bullets, an eagle button, finial, several pieces of canister lead, and a few other relics. The 1266-X got a strong signal under a rock that was about 4" thick. After digging up the rock, there lay a 1832 Mexican 8 Reales coin about the size of a silver dollar. Since the coin was holed, my best guess is that one of the US soldiers had fought in the Mexican War and brought it back as a souvenir. On the opposite side of the hill just above the spring, I also found a nice 1917 Half dollar. Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting from Tennessee!!!
Just for you guys, BuckleBoy and Civilman1-Pic of the other Relics!!!!

SWEEEEET!! Way to go!

That's AWSOME!

I thought about not replying to this--since I saw "Relics" in the title...but then I saw that you had a coin.

So here's my reply:

8 Reales are Nice.

Now show me the LEAD!

Sweet coin VOL....Where in the heck are the CW find's pic's :icon_scratch: ;D

OMG!!! That's wonderful!!!! Congrats!!

LOL In all seriousness though, I felt SURE that when I scrolled down to the second pic I'd see that the back of the 8 Reales had been smoothed out and turned into an ID disc! That would have made so much sense--and been even MORE spectacular. I'd say you're right on the Mexican War souvenir part. Most of the CW soldiers/officers worth their salt had some experience in the Mex. War.

Regards,

Buckleboy

Beautiful finds. I bet your heart skipped a beat when you moved the rock and saw that staring back at you.

Ohhhh Yeaaaah. That's some Kick-A$$ LEAD!

NICE finds!
I found an 1889 8 Reale about 6 months ago. Almost stopped my heart.
Those things are huge! Now I wanna find a Morgan really bad!
Congrats on the great stuff!

Good Job on the Mexican Reale. Yes, BuckleBoy is right....all the top officers of the Civil War had gained experience and noterity in the War with Mexico: Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis (who led the famed Jeff Davis Legion), Winfield Scott, George McClellan, Stonewall Jackson, etc, etc etc. So that is not a far leap to put two and two together with regards to it probably being owned by a soldier in the Civil War.
You have some nice "drops" too and the heel plate is nice as well. All and all, not a bad day of hunting.

Super nice finds. Since I can't have the lock can I have the reale.
Dman
