Welcome to TNET. Buy a detector and ask permission from your friends and relatives if you can hunt their property. Find someone that has a detector and hunts to give you a few lessons. Once you get started, you'll do okay. Gary

I usually recommend starting in an area with sand. Doesn't have to be a beach or the ocean, it can be a simple volleyball pit in a park. The digging is easy, its fun, and you will find something, although most times the coins are modern. There is a chance for silver or gold jewelry which will keep your interest going. It's a lot easier for a new hobbyist, because the junk trash finds are usually way less than digging in the dirt area of a park. You can also consider a "tot lot". They usually have wood chips or sand, and will also hold less trash. These areas give you the opportunity to learn your detector before you head out into the real world, and start digging so much trash that it may discourage you from continuing the hobby. After that, the sky is the limit. Do your research and find old places to go. Good luck.
