Probably a button that the shank is gone, can you show a picture of the back of the piece.

I definitely agree.. some sort of button, albeit very small! Here is the back of it... It sure looks like a shank was there!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but wouldn't this be a Cloisonne button or Cloisonne style button?
