Found this today. I think it looks like an un fired bullet but could be wrong.... Any idea

Looks like a 170 gr .30-30 bullet. Might also be from a .25-35 depending on your finger size.

Cool. I forgot to put a size reference in there. It looks like a hollow point. So I couldn't date how old it was.

Adding to what Charlie P told you... it is what is called a "jacketed" bullet, not an unfired cartridge. (You may recall the Vietnam War movie titled "Full Metal Jacket" -- the name referred to a type of ammunition the soldiers used.) Your bullet's jacket is made of copper. If it was a cartridge-case, it would have an easily visible rim around its base.

I found a whole pile of these type of bullets before and was trying to figure out what kind of firearms it came off of, apparently i stepped into someones mid 20th century shooting range.. But i haven't dug any others expect in that one spot..

I don't see any rifling marks. Are you sure it's been fired. Is it possible that someone that is a reloader had a pocket spill of some of his bullets? I have several boxes that look just like that I reload for my 25-35.

magnified to 400% and it shows rifling, A fired jacketed bullet....................HH
