Anybody else check this show out yet ? I don’t care for most of these type of shows but this one is pretty good. Worth watching for the LiDar scans alone it’s unreal how much detail they reveal even when used above terrain as dense as the Guatemalan jungle. Surely there’s going to be some great discoveries made with the help of this technology. They actually do recover a nice point from the Mayan site on that episode. Too bad a decent LiDar setup is outrageous would be really neat to use on some of the sites closer to home.

I did see the most recent episode. LIDAR is amazing, for sure. It's been used to study the New England landscape for a number of years now, but it's usefulness in revealing the vast extent of urban centers in the Yucatán has been jaw dropping. What a game changer!

I've spent a decent amount of time in Guatemala over the years. And basically anywhere you look in the Peten region there is evidence of the Mayans.

It is truly amazing how many sites, and how big the sites are. And how close you can be to something and not see it. (I've been within 50 feet of a 70 ft tall pyramid and not noticed it until it was pointed out to me.)
