[Westfront]

With options becoming scarce i went to a field close to an old village first settled by Romans. Had a pretty good day with temps in the low 40s strong wind and no rain. Weather i love for detecting.
Not much special to tell other than it looks like i stumbled over a skirmish site with musket balls, French regiment button and canteen top.
Some roman scrappies too...

WWII trash

Cauldron leg, furniture pieces, 20thC. brooch, bits

Modern coins, mostly zinc

Bird bands, headless marching lead soldier, unused lead seal

Buttons

Medieval belt fitting, hook side

Musket balls

Pile of lead...

Early french regiment button, canteen top?

Roman scrappies, nails, bronze nails, decorated lead piece

Oh Lu, ya had me goin. I was going to say "Right color but not the right metal." on all that lead. Then you saved that last SILVER bit for last. Not a coin or bar but it still counts. Out of places to hunt because of crop planting? Good luck.

Amazing finds I love that bottle I really want a musket ball just for the history/ I live in Ann Arbor founded 1826ish not a lot of history no battles around my town I did find a ww2 hat pin in the woods a kid must have taken from his Grandpa or its a fake. I know what you mean about options now & the conditions which are perfect. Other than the ground was drying out again at the end of Oct!!

Looks like a worthwhile hunt to me. I think I'm going for a risky hunt today with a fall-back plan.

In the last years farmers plant green manure over winter. Fast growing stuff. They don't care if you dig but no way to swing the coil when it becomes too big. Next time is in winter when the green manure is frozen down. Still some sugar beet in because of the drought we had. When this comes out you need to be fast. Just a small window before winter wheat is drilled in.

Farmers here are instructed to do so to avoid erosion.
Some seed grass to make one cut hay in spring before the corn comes in.
