Lots of Mosquitos and a Cannonball! Insitu!

It was another blazing hot day today and detecting sites were scarce due to crop and long grass. One of my old favs was just mowed so I decided to spend an hour or so there gridding the site. Mosquitoes were thick and I had run out of bug dope and water so it was not a comfortable hunt. This is an old French site but instead of concentrating on the actual house site (it's been hammered) I focused on the opposite end of the field. This field is close to the shoreline where I've found the 5 cannonballs this year so I knew there was always the chance of another.


Targets were few and far between with only iron sounding. I dug everything and the first few iron targets were a broken axe, nails and spikes. My best iron target was this...

Actually, I think it's an 8 pounder...haven't weighed it yet.

Yep...the best part about this one is I don't need to soak it for a year to leach out the salt water!

Here it is after the garden hose with the only other target from the field...a dropped Enfield.
