Didn't have a planned site to hunt, so I just went downtown looking for anything worthwhile. I found an old utility building (not sure what it's for nowadays), and it had, for lack of a better term, a nice front yard with a picnic table and some trees. The ground looked like it hadn't been kept up very well, there were patches of dirt with no grass, and the grass was very thin anyway, with lots of weeds. I've never found so much in so little time! I was there for just over one hour, every step there was another coin signal (literally), and what I found covered maybe half of the area. The finds of note include a 1954 Jefferson nickel, a brass butterfly jewelery thing, a flattened penny souvenier that says "kansas space center", and this interesting 1966 australian penny! It has a picture of a muskrat or something on the back! How did I find this all the way over here in colorado? I don't know!

The 1966 Aussie 1c is actually a really AWESOME find for a few reasons. Firstly it was the first year of Australian decimal currency-so therefore thats the oldest 1c around!!! Also they issuing both 1 and 2c pieces in 1991 so they are getting a bit rarer now. Also just so you know Aussies don't call 1c 'pennys' 'cos we used to actually have pennys (1965 isn't really that long ago) so people still refer to pennys as pennys and 'cos we don't have the 1c anymore they will probably never be called pennys.

The animal on the coin is supposed to represent the feather tailed glider, the worlds smallest gliding mammal.

I would be quite happy with that find even living in Australia!!!

One last random fact for you, thesedays a 1c piece apparently is worth about 3c (Australian) in copper!!! They're meant to be 2.59 grams if anyone wants to check :)

Hope that helps.

Have fun,

Jesse
