I didn’t bring a detector with me to New Mexico while we were visiting our daughter so my only finds were from my morning walks and visits to the local coinstar machines.
In my 8 days there and 6 days of driving I found 58 coins with a face value of $3.50, 2 pieces if cheapie jewelry, a new 2026 dime (the first I’ve seen), a clip, a folded up dollar bill that had been run over multiple times and assorted other trash.
Nothing great but a decent number of coins. Of course there were lots of squashed bottle caps and tabs. I still can’t understand why we find so many tabs that are designed to stay on the cans. I can understand beaver tail tabs because they need to be removed. Why can’t people leave them on the stupid can where they belong?
When I got home I went to buy groceries and found a quarter, 3 pennies and 2 tabs in the coinstar. One of the pennies is a 1930 wheatie in decent shape.
We went to the caldera and found a few new little friends:
a prairie dog
a coyote
a chipmunk
and a cute little lizard.
We also saw some elk, but they were too far away to get a picture. There were some interesting birds as well, but they didn’t sit still long enough to get a picture.
Now that I am back I can start swingin again. It’s been over 2 weeks since I did any detecting so I’m sure my arthritic shoulders and knees are going to be giving me fits, but I did miss the detecting. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
