Hi everyone,

I haven't been on alot the last few weeks posting. I've been researching alot with my time as of lately. I'm still on everyday looking over the board and making replies.

I was letting alot of the stuff build up until I showed it. I got lucky last week during the evening researching I spotted what I thought to be a old house off into the woods on a aerial photo. I made a note of it and had a good idea of it's location.

Saturday my wife was having a candle party at my house so it gave me a good amount of time to get out and see if I could find the place. Lance, My brother was actually over for a day and I can do alot more damage with another guy.

I noticed on the map a aerial shot that the home was by it self off into the woods. A creek bordered the home along with about a dozen pines. Me my son and brother got a bite to eat and started making our way to the site.

I was looking for a specific rd off of the rd I was on. It was right were it should have been. As soon as I made the left onto the rd I seen the pines lined up in the woods. I knew instantly that was it.

I was able to pull my car down a old dirt rd and was right on top of the site. It was even better when I realized the site must have just been demomed this summer. I could still see the hay planted for the new grass to come back up.

We started out slow but then I got 2 wheat's. Good sign for more to come. Then a few moments later my brother finds a old button civil war era type Police officer button.

We knew at that point the site looked to be from the late 1800's. I could see pieces of a frame house strewn around the back end of the site. We continued and I pulled up a really nice 1908 barber dime. I left it right in the clump. Brought it over for my son and brother to see me break it out and see if it was a barber or a seated. Only part of the back was exposed.

Lance picked up some wheat's and then hit on a 1923 S merc. We then got rained out and said we would return Sunday morning. Well Sunday I had 2 birthdays to go to. So I had to leave by 11:30. So we only got out for a hr or so.

I got a few more wheat's and a ton of relics. Gonna have to go back later this week. Everything else has come from an old over look I was hunting a few months ago.

I decided to go back some more and hit it. It's dyeing down now and opening up. I picked up a 1895 Indian a 1917 S merc A 46 Rosie and a few wheat's on a few outings there.

I also got a nice old sterling silver band. I polished it out for the wife to wear from time to time. I got it walking to my car. I was happy because I don't find a ton of silver rings. And when I do they are old.

But the find for me was a signal I received up against a tree. It was a solid 93 and was saying 7.0 inches on the screen. I said to myself could it be a silver dollar. I dug out a big pile full of dirt. Checked the pile and the detector was screaming and pinpointing good.

I swept the dirt away to find this very large medal about the size of a silver dollar and about as thick as a half. It had a loop all bent to death attached to the ring at the top. I guess it was worn or attached to maybe some type of ribbon at some point.

I knew it had to be old because the site was giving alot of late 1800's coins. But when I got it home and rinced it and seen it was in really rough shape and worn down I thought maybe it is even older than I think.

I can't give alot of info about it. There is writing on the top and bottom of where the guns are. I can't make them out and they seem foreign. I can't really understand the words. Top right side front may say peace of the.

It has what appears two old guns crossed with a fire in the center burning. It also has a old type of crown in the top center. On the back side it has just a large reef that borders the edges. No writings or markings on the back side.

I would love to know what this was and hopefully someone here with better researching skills than me can pinpoint what it is. Sorry I can't give a better description.

Thanks alot,

HH Jer

Post that medal on What is It...someone will be able to identify it...it looks either British or Colonial...

holy smokes !!!! lots of nice finds there........ ;D ;D ;D ;D

What an exciting post, had to pause and look at the pics before finishing the read! Awesome finds Jer and great research on the site. I hope that crossed gun medallion gets IDed, I'm really curious. HH and thanks for sharing the great finds, Mike

Great finds Jer. I see you are finding marbles too. ;D

That barber dime looks very nice - great coin. The big medal with the guns is unique. That's why I like hunting old home sites - you tend to find more unique stuff like that.

Excellent find's Jer....Sound's like you all have only scratched the surface on this place...Well done.By the way, thank's for the cleaning info....Sound's like just what I need....Good luck with the ID and HH!!

Hi Jer!

I always enjoy your posts. You certainly are a pleasing writer
and it's enjoyable to see you before and after photos.
You have to be one of the best coin cleaners on the site!!

Congrats on all the cool finds, hwat a great TH'ing site. Nice research!

The gun metal looks to me to be a Marksmanship award metal
because of the wreaths on the back and the open area the possible print
some type in the center (IE "First Place, etc) It looks early to mid 20th century to me,
but that's all just a guess, but I'll throw it out there to get others thinking.

WTG! HH!

Smiles!

Thanks alot everyone.

Glad you all liked the picks and story. Thanks for the ideas on the medal. I was having trouble myself figuring out what it may be. It has English lettering on it but it doesn't seem to make seance.

Either it's to worn out or it's foreign. I could post it in the whats it forum. Maybe it would help some. I could tell you what I do see though. It may not make seance but it may. I don't know foreign language.

Here is how it may read. Top left has two words left of the crown. I can't make out any of the first word. The second word all I can make out is Co and that is it. Across from it are two more words on the right top side and I think it says Peece Of Tir.

Bottom left side has one word. Looks to be Blegish. Across from it bottom right side looks like it says Leger. Then at the very bottom is one long word I can't make out. I can only make out the first three letters and they are SCH.

Sorry I can't help out anymore on the item. I could zoom it in more or put it in paint and see if the indents of the word show more. I know none of that makes any seance. So don't hold me to it.

The cap gun was in good shape Carat. You were right.

Booby, Thanks alot for recognizing how much I put into it all. Thanks for your incites on what you think it may have been. I think your on the right track.

I actually struck out the week before. I went to visit were I thought was a old site and it didn't pan out. It does get frustrating but I'm trying to come up with more areas to hunt.

It's nice to have a bunch of them to alternate. I'm onto a few other things to. I noticed a old ball field off into the woods. I don't do fields but have had some nice finds on the one's that weren't hit hard.

I have a feeling not alot of people know or remember this field. I also spotted some nice areas were there may be some old cellar holes. Alot of time and foot work involved though. As I get time I will check into these areas.

Thanks again to all that have viewed and helped out. Good luck out there.

Hey, Jer...

Could it be Belgisch Leger? "Belgian Army"
