Mary Lou

One day while Clotile was washing Boudreaux's clothes, she found a piece of paper in Boudreaux's pants pocket. She opens up the paper and it has the name "Mary Lou" written on it.
Clotile got real mad and stormed into the room where Boudreaux was and said, "Mais Boudreaux, you better explain to me who dis 'Mary Lou' is, rite now!"

Boudreaux said, "Mais Clotile, don't you go worryin bout dat. I went to de race track today and dat's the horse dat I bet on!"

Clotile thought about it some and said "OK, but don't you ever let me find out dat you been messin around with somebody else."

The next day the phone rang and Clotile answered it, after a while she hung up the phone and then went over to Boudreaux carrying a big iron skillet. Clotile hit Boudreaux on the side of the head with the skillet.

Boudreaux, rubbing his head, said "Clotile, mais what you done dat for?!"

Clotile said, "Mais, your horse just called!"

Boudreaux & the Puzzle

One day Pierre went to Boudreaux's house and Boudreaux was working on a jigsaw puzzle.
A year later, Pierre again visits Boudreaux and Boudreaux is still working on the puzzle.

Another year after that, Pierre went to Boudreaux's to go fishing with him.

Boudreaux comes out of the house and says "Mais Pierre, I'm so proud of myself, I finally finished dat puzzle and it only took me two years!"

Pierre says "Mais, Boudreaux, I don't tink dat it should take you dat long!"

Boudreaux says "Mais, Pierre, I tink I did perty good when it says rite dere on the box -- 'Jigsaw Puzzle - 500 pieces - 6 to 12 years'!"

An Attempt to Bypass Vicksburg

One of the most beautiful reminders of the Civil
War can be found in the picturesque Northeast
Louisiana town of Lake Providence. Here, on the
southern edge of the magnificent lake from which
Lake Providence takes its name, can be found a
1,000 foot surviving section of one of General
Ulysses S. Grant's planned canals to bypass the
Confederate stronghold of Mississippi.

Grant hoped to use this canal to connect Lake
Providence with the Mississippi River. Had things
gone as planned, he would have used the lake to
carry gunboats, transports and supply vessels
around the Confederate batteries at Vicksburg via
Baxter Bayou, Bayou Macon and the Tensas, Black
and Red Rivers.

Troops under General James McPherson worked
from January through March of 1863 digging the
canal, which was 100 feet wide and 5 feet deep.
The levee separating the Mississippi from the
canal was cut on March 18, 1863, opening Lake
Providence to access by boats. Although this
phase of the project worked well, the rest of the
conceived route proved impractical and Grant was
unable to bypass Vicksburg.

The canal survived as an open ditch until 1953,
when U.S. Senator Russell Long secured
legislation to fill it at the request of local residents.

Today, only about 1,000 feet of the original canal
can still be seen, but the access point is extremely
picturesque. A well-maintained park across U.S.
Highway 65 from the Louisiana Welcome Center
provides historical interpretation and an elevated
boardwalk and observation pier.

Other points of interest nearby include the
Louisiana State Cotton Museum, Poverty Point
State Historic Site and scenic Lake Providence.

Lake Providence - Where Louisiana Begins!

Located in East Carroll Parish in the northeast corner of
Louisiana, the town of Lake Providence offers some of the
most spectacular views to be found anywhere in the
American South.

The town takes its name from Lake Providence, a striking
body of water that can be seen for miles along U.S. 65 just
south of the Arkansas line. An oxbow lake, although much
larger than the norm, Lake Providence was formed long
ago when the Mississippi River changed course and
shifted slightly to the east. The lake it left behind is a
spectacular natural resource, noted for its fishing, wildlife
and scenic views. The spectacular scenery even attracted
the attention of President Teddy Roosevelt, who came to
East Carroll Parish to hunt and explore in 1907.

The area was in the heart of the Cotton Kingdom of the
Mississippi Delta and over the years untold thousands of
bales of cotton were shipped out via riverboat from the Lake
Providence area. The Louisiana State Cotton Museum,
located on the lake front just north of town, interprets the
state's rich cotton history with interpretive exhibits, restored
buildings, farm equipment and agricultural displays.

During the Civil War, thousands of Union soldiers camped
on the banks of Lake Providence. General U.S. Grant
began one of his attempts to bypass the Confederate
stronghold of Vicksburg here, by digging a canal to connect
the lake and Bayou Macon to the Mississippi River. He
hoped to use the waterways to allow steamboats to safely
steam around Vicksburg without coming under the guns of
the Confederate batteries there.

The effort failed, but a section of the 100 foot wide, 5 foot
deep canal can still be scene at Grant's Canal Park, across
from the Byerley House Welcome Center on U.S. 65.
Interpretive markers explain the significance of the canal
and wooden walkways and a gazebo provide stunning
views of Lake Providence.

Also of interest nearby is Poverty Point State Historic Site, a
massive complex of prehistoric Native American mounds
and earthworks.

Lake Providence is on the Great River Road scenic route
that follows the Mississippi River.

Everybody would be welcome I'm sure. 8) It's being held the following weekend. If you don't want to hunt, that's fine. There's plenty of room to sit under a tree and watch. If you do want to hunt, I think today's the last day for early entries. Otherwise, you'd just pay a bit more for a hunt. There are a # of hunts but the main hunt is on Sunday. Monty is most likely going to be there. I know Evy and I will be there. Don't know if Burdie's gonna be in the cheering sect. or not. :-\

Having joined in hunts in MO and KS with Noodle and RiverRat,I believe we are more interested in seeing their smiling faces again more than any 'scare-off' LA could put forth.Unlike Caldwell,I will also tag along to the local watering hole this time.I have a lot of fond memories of LA from my younger days, and that has proved to be somewhat awkward for me in this day and age,my mind and mouth will just not consider the state of my body is in today when a potential altercation presents itself.I too am looking forward to meeting more fun-loving people from Tnet and LA and being able to hide behind ME after I unintentionally say something to someone I meant to.

Warsawdaddy,
