I have a good friend who buys and sells homes and has been giving me the opportunity to search them while in his possesion. The home I was at yesterday was built in 1940 in Newport News and seemed like it might give up some silver, although when I arrived I was a bit leary of the neighborhood.
anyway I hunted for most of the morning into the early afternoon in the front yard. I purposely avoided the back yard as the previous tennant was an electrition who, judging by the piles, discarded his scraps there. I was doing OK, mostly cents, no silver and one 1974 rosie. The coins really dated the house as most of them were wheat cents, 1936-1950.
Decided to give the back yard a shot, under where the clothes lines had been, and found an old children's gun but nothing else.
Went around the side of the house to get to the front yard to finish a small part I had passed over. On the way there I got a signal under a small rock. Moved the rock and the signal was gone. Strange, I thought. Scanned the rock again and got a good signal. When I turned it over there was a token attached. It said "Luck of the Irish" and "with an Authentic Blarney Stone". After doing some google research, I found that these tourist items can be bought and the stone, while not a piece of the Blarney Stone, was taken from the same quarry as the Blarney Stone.
And Luck it brought. The next Signal I dug was my first war nickel, 1943 P (which I gouged miserably, doh) . Shortly after that I found a nice brass lock, probably from a journal or diary. Then my second war nickel, 1945 S to finish the day.
oh yeah, that little piece of rock is going on all my hunts now.
I'll post some pics of it later when I get home.
Thanks for looking and HH.
