I try and run my Gain around 80 in all settings, so I don't inadvertently lose depth in the mineralized soils around here. I don't use the notch filter unless I get tired. :skullflag:

I'm trying not to use 3 tone in all but the trashy sites, since i only have the stock coil. This weekend I did pretty good in 2 tone, finding a silver quarter under a hunk of iron. I'm keeping stock gain maybe raising it to 80 but not so high as i get instability. I keep ID filter at 10 but sometimes I'll bring it up to 19 but no higher than that since home testing found that small gold rings come up in the 20's. Iron audio I keep at 10 cause i like hearing that iron.
Here's a neat tip. When you loose that rubber boot on the trigger(and you will) replace it with a bit of Sugru. It works great.

I tested 2-tone, 3-tone and deep mode with my .925 silver ring.

Air test, I know, but still...

3-tone = 11"

2-Tone = 12.5"

Deep Mode = 14.5"

They were all at 80 gain.

Also maxed it off to the point of good diggable signal, as apposed to a faint can hardly hear tone, which i prob' woulda got over a few more inches.

Basically, pasture use 2-tone & Deep Mode.

Beach = Beach Mode

3-tone = trashy, shallow finds areas

Three tone park program for coins only (recent Drops):
Gain 50, ID Filter 27, Notch out 33-42, 46-63
Tone Breaks at 29 & 75
Low tone 10hz, mid, 40 hz, high 70 hz
Iron volume 0

Three tone ghost town Program
Gain 95, ID Filter 2 Notch - None
Tone breaks 10 & 65
Low tone 10hz, mid, 40 hz, high 70 hz
Iron volume 1 or 2

For a Deep Park program (Coins & Jewelry):
Gain 95+, ID Filter 13, Notch - None
Tone Breaks at 29 & 75
Low tone 10hz, mid, 40 hz, high 70 hz
Iron volume 0

Nickels 30-31, Zinc 65-66
Copper Penny/Dime 79, Quarters 85-86
Gold Rings: Most Lady's & Children's rings VDI 14-22 Men's VDI 29 - 44

Your results may vary.

I really only hunt in three tone 98% of the time. The other 2% I use Beach & Deep. I usually leave two tone set at the factory default or bump the gain, and I just use it for double checking questionable signals.

Being from Phoenix Tom, I know how mineralized the soils can be in that neck of the woods. Have you experimented with lower gain settings for your "Ghost Town" and "Deep Park" settings? I ask, because the high settings above 80 in some soils will actually cut your depth by several inches. :skullflag:

Terry You know that gain settings are site specific for lack of better words. At some sites you can run it high and at other sites you have to dial it back. I've played with the gain quite a bit and there are some sites that I like to run the gain at 01. I can still get 3 to 4" at 01 with the OOR coil. Quite often I'll leave the gain at the factory default of 70 as it works pretty well most anywhere, just depends.
