That does pre-date the C.W. and is listed as a Militia plate.Did you dig it?What State? The Tongue, features an Eagle with out stretched wings.

It is pre-CW. I don't remember what type of tongue went in that buckle, but it was an oddly-shaped one, and someone will know it for sure. Tnet member kuger will likely know. He is our resident specialist in these types of buckles. I don't have my book with me here at work, and not certain that it would be in there if it were a civilian type.

Best Wishes,

Buckles

LOL edit--Kuger, you are FAST! ;D The poster of this thread needs to go out and find the tongue portion of this one!

I dug it in chattanooga tn and I looked for the tongue for two days no luck. What would be a value on it?

That I do not know,I am more into the historical value VS numismatic, few hundred bucks I am sure

I wouldn't sell it but have been asked if I would be interested in a trade

You never know when the tongue might show, often they are many feet apart, some other hunter may have found it as well.Of course if you have both halves you are taliking some pretty good $$

Your welcome!!

not sure but looks like a cool find :icon_scratch:

Great looking buckle :icon_thumleft: Good hunt Dd60

That's a cool piece. There are several different tongues that could go to that wreath. The eagle, a milita star device and Boston Brigade Band. I think there was a Mass state seal that used that wreath as well. I think that type of wreath is called a New England or Massachusetts wreath as they were more commonly used by New England milita units. Especially Mass. units. A cool relic. I hope you are able to find the tongue.
