I've seen that button before but can't remember where I saw it - maybe on here.

That's a great find, congrats!

Thanks! cant wait to find out what it is..

I can’t figure out if it’s a mounted dragoon or a person with a riding crop. I hope it is a dragoon and the lettering commemorates a famous battle, war hero, or better yet a specific dragoon unit. You have a very interesting find!

I'm not sure on this one. It resembles some Rev War period button found on Loyalist sites, BUT the construction is wrong. Probably an early 19th century context. I found a similar one but larger a week or so ago on an 1840's site. They may fall in the livery button category. It's nice, that's for sure.

I think I've seen one like it on Tnet in the last year or two, but not sure. It's very cool! Congrats!

Very nice button. Never seen that one.

Just out of curiosity, I searched the Tnet search box for "button with horse and rider." Turns out there have been a number of similar buttons posted in the last few years and a fair amount of discussion about Rev war dragoons, but I didn't see anything definitive.

Thanks everyone... Hope someone can give it a positive I.D. one way or the other...

The back and construction make all the difference. The button in the link is a standard British "boss" back, and it was cast. Calabash's button looks to have a stamped construction with added loop shank, a whole different animal.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

As I thought, it's one half of an 18th C Cuff-link. Who it's meant to represent might be lost in time, unless you can read the letters.

W.D ??M

It looks like a Dragoon motif. Are we looking at a Dragoon Cufflink? Or like Smokey said a livery button and that is a riding crop??

It could be either type.

It will be a famous person from the 18th C, who probably was a Dragoon/Military leader.
A close fit would be Duke William 'the Butcher' Cumberland. It could be commemorating the victory of Colloden. (although the D initial should be an A)
It will be something along those lines.
