CLACKAMAS – A man robbed a bank in Clackamas Friday, but only asked for $1 before sitting down and waiting for police.Just before 10:30 a.m., 50-year-old Tim Alsip gave the bank teller at the Bank of America at 9171 SE82nd Avenue a note that said “This is a holdup. Give me a dollar,” said Mark Nikolai with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.Alsip got the dollar, sat down in the lobby and waited for police.

He was arrested and taken to the Clackamas County Jail on robbery charges

A very, very smart fella. This poor guy might have no money, no place to stay, and he's hungry. Now he has a private room and get 3 meals a day. Hmmm, I'm thinking..........

... and he doesn't have to work ever again.

Seen the homeless go and sit in a no trespassing area and wait, they know the system but this guy was a little more creative..kudos to the guys planning, shame it came to that though that he thought was his only option. Average cost per year to incarcerate is $75k, yet we can't help someone out for far less and get them to contribute back to society on e they've received a hand up.

Get your facts first, then distort them as you please-Mark Twain

You might say that O'Bammy Care and the New Deal is likened to the 'Good Hand People', they will get it one finger at a time...

Sorry, we are talking about helping and others not politics or religion here fellas....

I think I would have eaten a meal at a good restaurant and then robbed them . Go to jail on a belly full of a good meal . Banks make me feel like puking .

For a Dollar ?

Maybe a $300.00 fine & sent on his way.
Even if he refuses to pay,
they should throw a dollar to the Bank & say case closed.

After all we don't want to have the bank need
to apply for a Bail out over the Loss af that Dollar :o

I don't think for a dollar he'd get time. That's Petty Larceny at it's worse :laughing7:

If I was there I would have handed the teller $2.00 & said at the end of the Day , throw him out on the street, If he sat inside

What a number of posters seem to be inferring here is that there are a number of kinds of penal systems: isolation, retribution, restitution, and rehabilitation. Every country does it differently.

Our US private penal system is heavily isolative (just keep 'em out of society). Some countries have penal term of no greater than a few years for ANY crime. Why? If you can't be rehabilitated in three years, then you belong in an insane asylum, not a prison.

I'm not a fan of retributive systems--vengeance doesn't actually help victims, criminals, or greater society.

Restitution (in this case, $1) should be a part of every penal sentence.

Rehabilitation should also be a part of every penal sentence. There are all kinds of people who need all kinds of help. I'm a promoter of both public and private sector organizations who help those in need.

Interesting case, all the same.
