We decided to head to Manasota Beach for a change of scenery yesterday. We took our scuba gear and were thinking of doing a little sharks teeth diving off the beach. We usually go to Venice Beach, but wanted to try something new.
Both beaches are south of Tampa by about 35 miles if you are not familiar with the area.
We got to the beach and the waves were a bit too choppy for my wife so she decided to just beach hunt and I broke out the Infinium.
Walking to the beach I met a fella with an Excal II, Harold if I recall correctly. Nice guy. We talked about how poor producing the beaches are this year. I’ve usually got a bigger pile of loot than I do by now, but alas, it’s not to be… He was not faring any better from what he said.
Manasota beach is hunted pretty hard I suspect, as evidenced by what I didn’t find. I spent about 4 hours in the surf, about half of the time in the most populated area in front of the life guard station.
I found one penny in chest deep water, about 12” down. It was deep, and had been missed by the other folks for quite a while. It's hard to tell it's a penny. I also found the copper jacket from an expended bullet in just a little shallower water. The Infinium was working well and finding what was there.
I dug the nail because I was bored. The detector told me it was iron, but I wasn’t doing much of anything else so I dug it up.
The wife unit wasn’t doing much better with the teeth. The beach is pretty well picked over and constantly worked.
Fun day at the beach anyhow as it beats any day at work!
