Howdy!

TH'ers east of the Mississippi sometimes feel a bit left out of the mix. Here's a nice map of the Old Northwest Territory 1760-1836. This is from The Old Northwest; A Chronicle of the Ohio Valley and Beyond by Frederic Austin Ogg (New Haven, CT: 1921). This is a volume in "The Chronicles of America" series and every book I've read in it has been first-rate.

Good luck to all -

If you look toward the bottom of that map, you will see "Zane's Trace" terminating (at the western end, of course) in Vandalia, Illinois.

When I was a lad growing up in Southern Ohio, we were not too far from Vandalia, Ohio. The story went that a group of roadbuilders were hired to work on the Trace. They gave out in Southern Ohio. Because their contact stated they were to work until they reached "Vandalia," that's what they named the spot where the quit.

Good luck to all,
