Has anyone been to Mason Creek? In Ill. Edison Electric owns the property and last time I looked it was flooded and you have to go in by boat. It is fenced and there is a guard at the gate. They only let in people wither papers and geology students. I was lucky I have friends with papers. When I was there 30 years ago, it was all dry land with many hills. Now those hills are islands. We hunted for 7 or 8 hours and I found several hundred pounds of rocks. Now if you are a geologist or are really serious about fossil collecting then you know that the area was once ocean, sand, swamp, forest. and that when cracking open a rock you might find a fish, spider, fern, or snail. Most of mine are tellemunstrom or Dino dung. But I have a lot of nice ferns also. In the past I have given away many pounds of rock. But now that I am retired I plan to crack open my last 100 lbs of Mason Creek rocks.
