Took me 2 weeks to lug this mega chunk of this glassy green 80lb chunk out of the woods, but what should I do with it? Don't really want to break it apart either idk , any ideas?
A knapper would start tapping it with a hammerstone and take it apart on the cracks. If you end up with any crack free pieces that are big enough you could than chip a point or make some tools. Gary
Looks to have lots of cracks which is a big problem for knappers. Well if you don't want to break it up then stick it in the garden. If it were mine, being a flint knapper I would spall it out to see if their were any larger pieces to make arrowheads.
Interesting, I haven't heard of any big quarries near there but if you check out some of the tools found at Meadowcroft Rockshelter they are a lot of grey relics. Might be an interesting discovery.
I'm sure some of the Penna guys know a lot more about the raw materials in your area.
Some pretty material , I’m in Maryland ( eastern shore ) near Delaware state line I think I may have a few points I have found that looks very similar to that material I’ll have to see if I can find them and take a few pics. At first glance I thought it was flint but maybe Onondaga Chert ?
