✅ SOLVED Maybe a soldering iron head?

Found an interesting brass piece. The tapered end tapers into a wedge point. The brass end is flat. The only markings on it are some impressions that look like a cup point set screw held it. The tapered end looks like a silver coating is on it. Considering I just pulled it out of the ground it looks to be in fantastic shape. Thinking maybe a soldering iron point but really interested in hearing your thoughts.

I agree the tip is similar to soldering irons. I wonder if it originally had a wood handle around the thick section and it was made thick to help retain heat for tip to have a longer working time.

No, the whole thing went into a metal cylinder that heated up electically and although many had wooden handles some handles were bakelite. There was a set screw in the cylinder the tips sat in and tips of different shape and size could be fitted. I have used a couple of these over the years.

I agree, I use one that takes tips similar to this.
