Maybe not such a strange find for some, was for me..

I found these four rock like items in a field. I posted it on a metal detecting group on fb and it stirred quite a debate. From the comments I gathered it must be coke. Researching coke on the internet shows that coke is a grey color. Has anyone here found the likes of this before. It rings a stable 40-41 on the AT Pro and the pin pointer screams at an inch. It feels and weighs like coal, but does not give off even a bit of black when rubbed or scratched on white paper. If coal or coke, could it be that ferrous to ring a stable 40? If so, why? I have my theories but would enjoy any input.

I don't know anything about AT Pro. I use a Garrett 250. I find those quite often and always assumed they were coal clinkers.

I have found those also. Thought they were meteorites but there way to light.

My first thought was petrified charcoal (burnt wood). I've had several burn pits that gave me readings like that.
Of course you say it doesn't leave a black mark when rubbed, but if it's older and was able to petrify. Then maybe it wouldn't.
I'm not a geologist, but that's my first guess.
After that, are they breakable? Is there something inside them that'd give you the aluminum, lead reading. At least that's my id I get for those types of items.

I find those near railroad tracks all the time. The burnt coal/coke from the old steam engines will be so bad in some areas you cannot hunt them.

Found one yesterday, looks like coal.. Did some googles.. Iron and Coal like each other it rings up a +02/+03.. Mine was about 8" down in the mud.. drove me nuts..

Next to the clock parts..

I had a wierd pull tab the other day. No pic yet. It's in my bag in the truck and I'm bed bound. Lol.
Anyways, it's a pull ring and tab all fashioned as one piece. I don't think I've ever seen one like this in my 43 years and the hundred or so pull tabs, since started hunting. I'll post pic tomorrow. Maybe somebody could tell me what it came from.

Great help on that. I think it's Nutrament tab. I do think it was gold color on one side. Now I'll just keep that attachment on file so I can verify mysterious tabs. Now I can sleep at night. Lol.
I've never even heard of that drink before. Time to search it out.
