Medal found at beach in water

I found this while detecting a beach in about 4 feet of water. Appears to be brass. Anybody have ideas as to what it is?

Thanks for the replies. My concern was the ring holder is different than the medals pictured when googled. As if it is for a chain rather than a ribbon? I cannot find one that looks like mine. I was wondering why it is different? Who would be likely to have something like this? It was found on an active beach that gets detected numerous times each year, so it was'nt there very long.
