found at old house site ... says J. W. at the top ... has 3 Fleur-de-lis in the center and under that has the words "Le meilleur du monde" which translates to "the best of the world" ... under that there is a number. About the size of a quarter ... Any idea as to what it might be?

Also found these old navy buttons at the same site. According to one website they are pre 1941 because of the direction of the eagles head and would be sometime after 1860 because the anchor is horizontal. Any way to date them to something more precise? Neither one of them has a backing (they both rotted off).

thanks for looking ....

jlar

I think its a Medal honoring the European Assault, which was around that time frame. Nice Find.

I believe it is a early form of credit card for the John Wanamaker Store in Philadelphia. Just dug one up myself #165774.

I just noticed this thread was from 2005. Thanks for solving an old thread. Im not sure jlar is a member anymore.

For the record the buttons are civilian blazer buttons with a naval motiff or non military replacements.
