Medevac duty in Afghanistan

I posted a post on this subject a while back. This is a more detailed slide show of what life is really like for these brave Men and Women of the unit called DUSTOFF. these people really put their lives on the line for their fallen brothers.Our Son was part of this group serving as a critical care flight nurse. They served on duty as firemen here do where they are ready for action at a minutes notice 24/7. On there off duty hours they rest and think of home. This video shows how they celebrated Christmas and all the food they had sent to them by friends and family.What this video doesnt really show is what they actually see and the stress of having someones life in your hands as the Blackhawk hellacopter there in flies at 180 miles per hour trying to get the patient to the nearest trauma center.Our Son really loved this job. He had served in Iraq also,but the DUSTOFF Unit was his real love. He is a career army person and has moved up in rank to Major and is Officer in charge of a unit in the army Hospital at Fort Lewis Washington now. Excellent job. Sure brings many bittersweet memories of my door gunner days in Vietnam. That was a good spread of food in pic # 50. However, the food didn't taste as good overseas as it did back home. Pic. # 80 was the best one!!

Thanks johnnycat. He took most of these shots with a cheap camera.He volunteered for that job and I wasnt very happy about him doing that,but he really liked it and to this day actually misses it. Picture #80 is our favorite one also.

Mackaydon you and Johnnycat are both correct. They are all heroes. They work in 5 man crews on those Blackhawk choppers. A piolet, co piolet, crew chief, medic and flight nurse. They are also supported by a Blackhawk gun ship
. No easy job for any of them. Ive read some of the army press releases on some of the missions and they send a chill up your spine on things these guys do.Our Son doesnt think he did anything special nor did the rest of the crew. To them they just do there job. These guys that do this are very well trained in advance.Thank you for your kind words,its appreciated. Also thank you for your service.
