The first gift was the weather, it was a beautiful day to hunt! The ground was a bit muddy, but I don't care. ;)

The 2nd gift were these three wheaties:

3rd gift:

Sterling silver, the "stone" is very questionable, it appears to have been cleaved.
The ring itself appears to be very well crafted and I think it might be quite old.
Even if not, I'll take it! LOL

Also got this knife:

It was almost a full foot down in some roots under a big pine tree!
I've found a few knives but for some reason, this one seems to be VERY well preserved!

Oh yeah! And this would be gift number 5:

PRESENT3_1.webp

It was another deep "penny" hit! Surprised the bejabbers out of me!

But just look at that silvery smile shining up at me!

This was my exit find for the day.

I felt complete and very blessed!

A VERY nice early Christmas if you ask me. :)

If it is the VERY last hunt of 2013 for me, it was a good one!

Oh, and of course:

Merry Christmas from Blingie and me! :)

great finds. I'd bet that ring is from the 20's or 30's

Awesome finds, that looks like a great day of MD'ing times 5!!

You definitely ended the year on a high note! I would bet my last dollar that ring is pretty old. It just has the look of some age. Congrats on another great hunt with matching great pics to prove it! Merry Christmas to you.

Sweet finds. Congrats.
How do you like your Pro Pointer? I just ordered one myself.

I'll tell you, the pinpointer has been a God-send! I'm from the old school, (Garrett Groundhog). Back then, one just used the detector before, during and after the dig. :)

What I like the most is when I pull the plug I can tell right away if it's in the hole or in the plug! Has saved me a TON of time! It's also found a few things for me, checked the hole after I located the target, had a signal. I thought I'd check it with the detector to see if it was iron. No signal! The mineralization was sooo bad the detector couldn't pick it up. But, stick the pointer in the hole and viola! LOL

I did have some trouble with mine when I first got it but Garrett was just plain awesome in getting it cleared up!

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Congrats on lots of good finds! That ring does look old, guess it didn't take Blingie long to run right up and confiscate it! Knife with sides still intact and not all that rusted nice! IH and wheaties good shape! And to end the hunt with shinning silver that is awesome!
You had a GOOD day! (Hopefully there will be many more, shhhhh! Not too loud in case w-i-n-t-e-r is listening! HH! Shhhh)

And a Merry Christmas and treasure filled New Year to you and Blingie!

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I felt like I was sneaking around all day. ;) Mum's the word!

Thanks!

Thanks for the input. I have always used a Vibra Probe in the past (560 & 570 models), but since they came out with the newly designed 580 model I don't care for it. I sent one back, got a new one and it acted the same so I sold it. Why they had to ruin a good thing I don't know. :dontknow:
Looking forward to trying the new Garrett Pro Pointer.
Merry Christmas,
Doug

Thank you, MM for the input on the Vibraprobe. I have been thinking bout one because of the waterproof feature. What did you not like on the 580?

One tip I'd give for the Propointer. I would cover the two little slots of the speaker. It will make it quieter but, you can still feel it vibrate. What happened to me is that the mud caked up in them and it popped the inside cover of the speaker. It still sounds but it's very quiet! Outside of that it's been waterproof!

Good hunting!

Very nice finds. The knife does look good for being amongst the roots.... Bring on 2014!

The 560 and 570 models would only shut off by timing out after say a minute of use which was great. The new 580 has not only the time out option, but you can also shut it off by holding the tip upright. Problem is that's the same way you turn it on too. So if you are out detecting and get another signal within the time it was turned on from a previous signal, your instinct is to pull it out of the holster and tilt it upright to turn it on, but you actually end up turning it OFF. It's very irritating flipping it up and down to turn the damn thing on. :BangHead: I had no problem with my 560 or 570, as a matter of fact I LOVED them. The only reason I don't have either one now is I gave the 560 to a friend in need when I bought a 570. The 570 I used so long I wore the tip down to the wiring. :tongue3:

When I took the 580 out to try it not only was I disappointed with the new shut off method, but it literally wouldn't pick up a signal sometimes when I was actually TOUCHING the metal target! I couldn't believe it!!! I touched it to the edge of a brass key and nothing. :dontknow: By that time I had thought I had a defective 580 so I wrote the company an e-mail with the issues, sent it back, and even requested a new 570 model if they still had one. Well, needless to say they sent me another new 580 again. I took it out to a park to try it and the same thing! I had a pull tab out of the hole and laying right on top of some mulch. The 580 wouldn't even vibrate when I was touching it with the tip! By that point I was so disgusted that I had wasted $129 that I sold it. It's a real shame, because they ruined their product and lost a customer too. I was a die hard Vibra Probe fan before that. On the plus side, they ARE very durable and waterproof. I never had issues with those two things. Hope that helps.

Boy do I remember those days, recovery was complicated and time consuming sometimes. Cant even think of hunting with out it now.

Maybe tie a real pretty bow around it so you can find it when you leave it behind someday! (A lanyard would be a good idea too. ;) )

I have a few old watch FOB chains I've dug over the years. Maybe I'll use one of those or a bungee cord. :tongue3:

Ummmmm, I don't think I would recommend a "chain" on the Pro-Pointer. LOL
