metal scoops???

A good scoop I can help you with, however you don't get good with cheap together. How many times a year do you want to buy that cheap scoop?

I use the Stealth scoop from Sunspot Products, but there are other good ones too. You gotta pay for quality, there is no getting around it, even if you make your own.

I bought 1 "cheap" $40 one and it broke in 2 months. I then bought a "Zeke" ( he was on this website) $75 scoop which works good. I found a used "beach brute" on ebay and bought it for $100. It is my primary scoop as it has huge basket and 5 foot handle and Zeke's scoop is now my back up. I have one sand scoop with very short handle. I found someone to weld on the beach brute and they put an extra loop handle on front and rear to make it easy to shake out and pull up..He only charged me $10 plus tax ;D

My wife asked why I had to have so many scoops, told her in case one breaks. Don't think she understands still. Last thing I want is to drive 46 miles to beach and have no scoop so I always take 2 with me.

Here is a beach brute ebay link.... http://cgi.ebay.com/Beach-Brute-Pro...and-Scoop_W0QQitemZ170005098655QQcmdZViewItem

I bought mine from Zeke here on Tnet. It's got a long two piece handle that unscrews and can be used for a short scoop. really nice scoop. Don't know if he is still making them though. Monty

i also have one of the metal hand scoops whites make. has antone ever tried to put a handle on it with any success??

For a "cheap" hand-held scoop (the kind that will cost over $30.00) I went to a tack-and-feed shop, bought a 2-quart plastic feed scoop, and drilled a lot of 3/8 inch holes in it. It ends up looking just like one of the expensive "hand held sand scoops," is just as sturdy (they were designed originally to hold several pounds of feed), and cost me about 1/10 the price!

My only problem with it is that I didn't drill enough holes to begin with, so the sand filters out too slow. Easily corrected by drilling more holes. Just have to be careful to maintain the integrity of the shape, and leave enough plastic to keep its strength.

Even cheaper would be to make one like my first sand scoop -- I cut an old laundry detergent bottle to the shape of a scoop (keeping the handle intact) and drilled a lot of holes in that. Cost: $0.00, but the plastic is so thin that it isn't very strong. Still worked okay, though.

Just remember: expensive doesn't always mean better.

I tried this tonight and can't figure out how you keep from making a mess. I had soap all over my drill bit and table. The detergent bottle slipped out of my grasp and spun around throwing soap all over the place.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. ;D ;D :D :D

Sandman

LOL good one Sandman.........If I did that my wife would be mad because there would be no detergent to do the laundry.

Geez, forget one little word and look what happens! ;)

EMPTY, I forgot to say "old EMPTY detergent bottle"!!!

(Or did you guys figure that out!) :D

I started with cheap....... then went to better......then went to best after I broke the other 2. The first day out with BEST. I found 2 gold rings. they were deep. would not have been able to retreive them with either of the first scoops . BUY QUALITY HH Gayle
