Possibly the bottom to an old lipstick tube. I've found a few like that before. I have a couple of whole ones if you want a picture for reference.

Threaded grease cup. Probably from some farm equipment or maybe hit miss engine but being 1/2” my guess would be the brass grease cap for the Model T ford steering column since they were 1/2”-5/8” in size.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1594656300.079006.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1594656313.325003.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1594656320.587848.webp I’ve found them a few times on farmsteads metal detecting. They would break or vibrate off.

Age is hard to say but most grease cups were used extensively through the 1920’s. If it was used on the Model T steering column then 1927 would be the latest date since that was the last year of manufacture. Not sure of how the best way of cleaning. I know they use walnut shells for brass cartridges, that might work.

Is it threaded on the inside and what do you think is inside the cap?

doesnt look threaded, but could have worn away with age. just looks like where it screwed into something
