Back at the 1850 site today. I unearthed a Mexican coin (1992). It's gold coloured and very thick. The obverse reads V. Carranza with the bust of him I suppose, and $100 just opposite his face. The reverse reads Estados Unidos Mexicanos around the perimeter. Is this a $100 gold piece???

Clueless in Pa.

The reverse looks very similar to Jeff's pix but the obverse clearly says $100. I shined it up and it is definitely gold......yippee!
Now I need to find out if it's spendable here.
