After two weeks of hitting it hard with the detector and finding Jack I found this little article I could so relate to. Still... I'm not giving up!

husband called one of the retailers. He explained that we wanted a detector that would be easy for a 7-year-old to use, but that would be suitable for finding Civil War artifacts, since we live close to some known encampments. The salesman found this hilarious. "Believe me, you're not going to find any Civil War artifacts. I've been doing this for three years and I've never found anything valuable."

He was a dealer ? where ? Radio shack ? Walmart ?

also sounded to me like she would have detected the white house lawn, if there at the time. No mention of asking permission unless I missed it,
sounded lost & scary

of course perhaps she left things out for dramatic purposes

That is a good article,funny too...just hope a lot of the newer people get frustrated with it too..its to good of a hobby for all to enjoy...let them get a golf stick and chase a little white ball around the golf pasture.
