(No, not night-hawking, Kiawah Island SC beach detecting.)
Super hot this week, so got out with my headlamp 3 nights. First night I was swinging the towel line near the dunes and heard sand being dug just ahead. Turned my headlight in the direction and saw this.
Bad pic, but a giant barnacle encrusted loggerhead turtle digging a nest to lay her eggs. Really neat encounter.
Here is the handful of beach finds.
Also found a weather balloon transponder, packaged up and sent to the government.
There was what appeared to be the ruins of a foundation off a bike path near our condo. Battled the heat and mosquitos for few brass finds among blobs of lead and shotgun headstamps.
Best part of the trip was spending time with the family and fishing with the kiddos. My youngest walked away from her rod at the dock, I looked over and the rod tip was bent fully over and the line getting yanked under the pier. I grabbed the rod and stuck the tip under the pier so the fish didnโt snap the line and handed the rod to my daughter. She fought a nice sized spotted tail redfish onto the dock. A regular said it was the biggest he had seen in three years at this boat launch.
Heading home to PA now, good luck out there!
