Found at house built in 1816. No idea what it may be, but with eagle emblem in center I figure it is a military item??
Came out of the ground curved, but if flattened out would measure 2-1/2" tall x 1-7/8 wide.
Is made out of brass or copper?? And has what is apparently a mounting plate on the back.
Interested to know if military and if so of what era and also what it would have been attached to...
Have only dry cleaned with toothbrush...

With the clasp on the back, I'd say a belt or sash buckle of sorts.

I'd gamble and say more a patriotic item versus military used. But I could be wrong, and CINC Household tells me daily that I'm wrong on something or another.

The smarter people should be along shortly and give you a better answer.
