I found a "great seal" military button in an old park, along with a worn buffalo nickel. In fact, they were in the same hole. I have been able to ID the style as post 1902 general services (globe above the eagle), but have a strange dilemma.

The manufacturer on the back of the button reads R (other leaders unreadable) MFG CO Newark, NJ. I cannot locate any information on military button manufacturers out of Newark.

Is it possible this particular button may have been off designer "sailor" clothes that were popular in the '30s?

The park is located near a historic resort spa, and was popular for tourists to visit back in the early '30s. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Starting six lines into the text at the bottom of this referenced page, you'll find this quote: " The button(s) are embossed with the manufactures name to the reverse, the large "R.Liebmann MFG Co. Newark N.J." and the small "R.L.MFG Co. Newark N.J.".

Maybe it's yours.
