Not sure you can open this, but it appears to be a vintage airplane button to me. Good luck.

Traveller777 That's exactly what it is. I've since found several versions but all are very similar. My apologies for not marking it...
I think this is a military button with crossed cannons. There are some visible stars around the perimeter. The back is illegible. There is something I've never seen on the back...there is a small metal "clip" going through the loop. Any and all thoughts welcome. Some photos are focused on particular details not necessarily the entire button.

Actually, that button was manufactured to commemorate Charles Lindberg's famous "First Solo Transatlantic Flight." The emblem on it is a decent representation of his equally famous airplane, the "Spirit of St. Louis." So collectors tend to call it a Spirit-of-St.Louis Commemorative button.

I used the descriptive phrase "a decent representation" because other Lindberg commemorative airplane buttons showed up on the market at about the same time, and the airplane looked very little like Lindberg's Spirit. For example, in the photo below the "Airplane button" alongside an actual Spirit Commemorative button even says "Spirit of St. Louis" on it, but the plane is completely unlike Lindberg's Spirit. (Sorry, I do not have a closer-view photo of the faux Spirit button.)
