Military ( I think)

I dug these items a while ago and have never been able to identify. The first item is I believe a rosette. It's brass, lead back, two posts remain. Now what makes me think military is on the right hand side I think is a 5 over an 8 or 9. This piece has some very fancy script which I can't make out, but isn't anything like this with a number on it militqary? HELP. The second item I beleive is British, it should have the words Ich Dien on it but I ony have Dien. All opinions appreciated. Thanks for looking

I agree with that. And I will add that I think this could be a cloak clasp or cloak pin, judging from the button eyelets on the back of it. If you can find a photo of a uniform, pay special attention to the cloak at the top and see if there is anything like this in the photo.

both of these were dug in Massachusetts. any idea as to age?
