This was in my local newspaper today about 2 mine sweepers found in the water near me. Moderaters please move this if this is the wrong forum, I could not find one that fit this story. My question is what what you do if you saw a mine sweeper floating in the water ? I would be scared, lol, it might be a live bomb, I dont know what it is.

my understanding minesweepers are for finding Bombs so they would not be explosive.

that said even if I did not know what it was, or thought it was a Torpedo, I'd wish I could take it home. But since it would be too heavy, and next to impossible to ttake it home without fear someone would see me & call it theft. I'd let it where it is
for the kids to play with and move on.
IMO if it were dangerous it wouldn't have been discarded there .

that said, Treasure in the News is the proper place

My newspaper had a article on Captain Kidd's possible treasure cache locations in Maryland, I could not find the article online, I will look again later. I decided to post the mine sweeper article. They want to donate it to the now closed Bainbridge Naval Academy for the museum.

The Kidd cache is supposed to be near Indian River Inlet. Frank...-

I would be more worried about finding the actual mine they swept for or an unexploded ordinance along the coasts I have hunted that I know we're used back during the early 1900's for training.

Yes there pigs alright, but parts are missing that would not have fallen off on there own. the lower fins have been removed.

These pig are made from 316 non magnetic stainless steel and it looks like someone has started to scrap them.

In this photo you can see the pig on deck with the words "size 1 900 lbs" this fin is missing on the ones found and that leads me to believe it was junked or being used for something else.
